The Importance Of The Irish Cricket Union

The Irish Cricket Union was officially founded in 1890. It was responsible for overseeing all of the cricket teams in Ireland, including men’s and women’s. Being a governing body, it also organizes and oversees the cricket competitions that are played in Ireland.
Cricket Ireland was finally formalized in 1923 and has therefore been around a long time. This lengthy stay as the governing body of cricket gives much prestige to the Union as well as to members of it. Due to the tireless work of the Irish Cricket Union, Ireland was finally accepted to the International Cricket Council in 1993 as an associate member. For this achievement alone, Cricket Ireland is extremely important to the sport. They are currently working on having the Union accepted as a full member after their success in the Cricket World Cup.
The Irish Cricket Union represents all of Ireland instead of simply the Republic of Ireland and to show this, it employs its own flag instead of the Irish tricolor. This is important because it shows the solidarity between all the cricket teams located in Ireland.
If it was not for the organization and power of the Irish Cricket Union, the sport would have faltered in Ireland. It, instead, has prospered tremendously.
